Regrets and Forgiveness

Reflecting on the Past
Thinking about my past really plays a huge role in how I take care of my spiritual and mental well-being. You know, before I got diagnosed, I kind of just floated through life, assuming that other people would step in and handle things for me when I couldn’t. It sounds a bit naïve, right? But honestly, that mindset led to a whole lot of hurt feelings and misunderstandings.
The Struggles of Stability
For a long time, I didn’t have a stable place to live or work. It wasn’t until I hit my late thirties that I finally found some semblance of stability. My jobs never seemed to stick around for long, mostly because of my ACC and the mental health challenges I was facing. I was in this cycle of relying on others for almost everything, thinking that was just how it had to be.
A Surprising Realization
But here’s the kicker: I eventually realized that I could actually handle a lot of things on my own! It took me a while, but I learned that I could ask for help when I genuinely needed it instead of just waiting for someone to swoop in and save the day. It’s a pretty empowering

feeling to know that I have the ability to take charge of my life, even if it took a bit of a journey to get there.
Amends & Forgiveness
In Al-Anon, I had a big aha moment when I realized that getting to a place of emotional and psychological wholeness was all about forgiveness. I figured out that I couldn't really feel complete or at peace until I made a real effort to work through my feelings and experiences with those who had hurt me. This wasn't just some vague idea; it was a deep truth that hit home for me, cutting through all the layers of hurt and resentment I'd piled up over the years.
Forgiving Myself
One day, it hit me with a sudden clarity that I had never truly allowed myself to cut some slack for all those chaotic years that seemed to stretch endlessly in my life. Those years

were filled with turmoil, confusion, and a relentless sense of being overwhelmed. I realized that I had been so hard on myself, constantly replaying the mistakes and missteps in my mind, that I had failed to acknowledge the underlying factors that contributed to my struggles. It wasn't merely a series of poor choices that led to the chaos I experienced; there was a deeper, more complex reason behind it all. Finding out about my ACC totally changed my life. It finally gave me answers to so many issues I’d been dealing with; and the ability to forgive myself. The heaviness and burden of self-loathing is one of the most destructive things in a person's life.
Conclusion
So, basically, forgiveness is super powerful and can really help us heal and grow. When we forgive others and ourselves, it opens up the chance for better relationships and a more satisfying life. Letting go of grudges frees us from past baggage and makes our emotional world richer, setting us up for a kinder and brighter future.
